Dr. John M. Fossey, DèsL is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Archaeology as a result of his work over the last 14 years with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and for 31 years before that with McGill University.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has one of the highest attendance rates among Canadian museums. Every year, close to 770,000 people visit its unique encyclopedic  collection (free of charge) and its original temporary exhibitions, which combine artistic disciplines (fine arts, music, film, fashion, design) with art historical content(World Culturesx, including Mediterranean Archaeology,  PreColumbian Art and Asiatic Art, Old Masters, Prints and Drawings, Modern Art, Canadian and Contemporary Art as well as Decorative Arts and Design) and feature innovative exhibition designs. It conceives, produces and circulates many of its exhibitions across Europe and North America.  

It is also one of Canada's leading publishers of art books in English and French, which are distributed worldwide. Over 100,000 families and schoolchildren take part in its  educational, cultural and community-oriented programs each year. In his current position with the museum, as during his years at McGill, Dr. Fossey specializes in Greek Archaeology, Epigraphy and Topography.

He has written nine books on the archaeology, history, topography and epigraphy of Central Greece, and has edited many more such as The Greek Diaspora: From Antiquity to Modern Times, and has authored about 100 scholarly articles. Dr. Fossey is presently a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada; Fellow  of the Society of Antiquaries of London; and Corresponding Fellow of the German Archaeological Institute. He was founding President of the Canadian Institute in Greece. Dr. Fossey earned his DèsL (Docteur ès lettres) from  Université Lyon II, France and holds an Hons B.A. from the University of Birmingham, UK.
