A distinguished scholar and contributing author to the Global Legal Insights Fund Finance publication, prior to joining Appleby Raftopoulis was an associate in the Banking and Financial Services Group of Matheson Ormsby Prentice Solicitors in Dublin. Known for his responsiveness and timeliness in assisting his clients, Raftopoulis ensures that everything gets done in an organized and efficient manner. A provider of top notch service, Raftopoulis has gained unprecedented experience in the areas of Insurance Disputes, Banking & Asset Finance, Corporate Finance, Insurance & Reinsurance, and M&A. In his current capacity, Simon Raftopoulis is both partner and member of the Corporate Finance and Private Equity teams, representing clients in a wide variety of corporate finance transactions, including private equity and fund finance, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, initial and secondary public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities. Certified at the Securities Institute in International Capital Markets Qualification, throughout the course of his education and training, Raftopoulis attained his Bachelor of Arts degree and LLB from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. He also attended Blackhall Place in Ireland.

To further enhance his career, Raftopoulis is an esteemed member of several prominent organizations and has been involved in undertaking pro bono charitable work at the Family Resource Centre in the Cayman Islands. Additionally, he is a distinguished fellow of the Cayman Bar Association and the English Bar Association where he participates regularly at conferences and seminars, and provides commentary to international and local media.

In recognition of his many professional accomplishments, Raftopoulis was recommended as “Lawyer in Legal 500,” in 2018 and recognized in the Merger & Acquisition chapter of Who’s Who Legal and M&A and Governance. He was recently listed in Who’s Who Legal: Corporate – M&A and Governance 2015, Who’s Who of Merger & Acquisition Lawyers in 2014 as well as the Who’s Who of Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers in 2014. Raftopoulis was also the recipient of the “Finance Deal Maker of the year” award in 2014.
