Loretta Theres Dorn, Ph.D. is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as Professional of The Year in the field of Higher Education in recognition of her role as Chair and Associate Professor of Chemistry, Fort Hays State University. Established since 1902, a higher education institution, Fort Hays State University was developed to meet the needs of student’s future endeavors. A “forward thinking, entrepreneurial university,” Fort Hays offers a wide array of services to their students providing, undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as Associates and Bachelor degree certifications in various fields. With over thirty one academic departments, the institution prides themselves on their students “deep appreciation of knowledge, professional skills, and confidence.” Comprised of a team of outstanding professors, the university “provides accessible quality education to Kansas, the nation, and the world through an innovative community of teacher-scholars and professionals to develop engaged global citizen-leaders.” Inspired by the philosophy of Carl Sagan, “If you wish to bake an apple pie from scratch, you must create the universe,” Dr. Dorn specializes in several facets of higher education including Departmental Management, Organic Chemistry, Glass Blowing, Forensic Science and Student Affairs. Amassing over thirty years of experience in the industry, Dr. Dorn prides her success on her passion and love for teaching. Throughout the course of her education and training, Dr. Dorn attained her Ph.D., from Brandeis University. In her previous years, Dr. Dorn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with concentration in Biochemistry from Carnegie Mellon University. To further her professional development, Dr. Dorn is an affiliate of several organizations including the National Association of Professional Women where she was the recipient of the VIP Woman of The Year Award. In addition, Dr. Dorn also holds affiliations with the American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemists, and Humane Society of the United States. When she is not working, Dr. Dorn enjoys cooking and traveling. Having visited every continent, Dr. Dorn has also visited Australia and New Zealand.
