Founder and Executive Director of Cottage House, Incorporation 501 c (3) not for profit organization.
The mission of Cottage House is to inspire youth and help promote sustainable agricultural solutions and economic development in rural Southeastern Alabama through a multitude of community programs, entrepreneurship, leadership, life skills and more. Established in 2000 by Barbara, the primary focus of Cottage House is to educate youth as well as promote a passion for business and agricultural skills for future generations. Through this, Barbara plans to increase community gardens, create jobs for the youth, promote healthy life styles and educate residents on the importance of growing and eating locally grown fresh produce from the fields to the table.
Dedicated to helping local youth, Barbara utilizes her expertise in business development, agriculture and leadership to teach children how to build and manage successful businesses while enhancing their social skills and self-esteem. Furthermore, Barbara maintains affiliation with the Eastern Star King Solomon Chapter 42, Ester R. Walters Assembly No. 24A Loyal Lady Ruler, National Women in Agriculture Association, local Eufaula Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, Alabama Chapter NWIAA, 4H Organization Auburn University Alumni, Small Farmer’s Agricultural Cooperative, and The Women’s Memorial Foundation (Charter Member- Washington DC). She was awarded the Alabama A & M Distinguished Community Service Award in Youth Development and Agriculture in 2007; Alabama NRCS Small Farmer of the Year award in 2008 and inducted into the Alabama 4-H Wall of fame on December 7, 2010.
