Carlos Cordon-Cardo

Cordon-Cardo, M.D., Ph.D., is recognized by Continental Who’s Who among Pinnacle Professionals in the field of Healthcare. Dr. Cordon-Cardo is a Professor and Department Chair of Pathology at Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai. The prestigious medical school or the Mount Sinai Health System, Icahn School of Medicine is home to seven hospital campuses comprised of over 5,000 faculty members with nearly 2,000 students, residents and fellows. Icahn is a global leader in award winning research, first class patient care and medical training.

An esteemed physician, Dr. Cordon-Cardo’s areas of concentration include: genetics and genomic sciences, oncological sciences, cancer biology, medical education and much more. When he is not teaching, Dr. Cordon-Cardo spends his time researching experimental pathology and molecular oncology. Well known for top tier research in his field, Dr. CordonCardo has received funding from the National Cancer Institute. His research ultimately targets cancer cell prevention, tumor suppression in bladder and prostate cancers and soft tissue sarcomas as well as the overall effects on mutations of various cell cycle regulations. Furthermore, Dr. Cordon-Cardo has developed several patents and established the Division of Molecular Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where he served as its very first director.

 

To keep abreast of the latest in medicine, Dr. Cordon-Cardo is constantly recruiting upper level faculty to help identify and develop subspecialty areas within molecular and systems pathology programs to further expand biorepositories and databases to greater enhance translational research. Throughout the course of his education and training, Dr. Cordon-Cardo earned his Ph.D. at Cornell University Medical College as well as his Medical degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
