Gabriel Sosne, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Ophthalmology in acknowledgment for his major contributions to eye care, research, and education with the Kresge Eye Institute and Wayne State University School of Medicine.
The Kresge Eye Institute has been a leader in patient care, eye research, and medical education since its establishment in 1948. The Institute proudly serve patients of the metropolitan Detroit area and the Midwest for highly specialized care in areas such as glaucoma and filtering surgery; cataract and lens implant surgery; corneal transplantation and refractive surgery; neuro-ophthalmologic, orbital diseases, and plastic surgery; retinal disease and vitreous surgery; pediatric ophthalmology and diabetic eye care. The highly-trained clinical ophthalmologists, who are also Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty members, treat more than 100,000 patients annually and perform nearly 5,000 surgical procedures.
Renowned as a top ophthalmologist, Dr. Sosne is a seasoned professional having accrued 27 years of vast knowledge and professional experience in his field. He specializes in all facets of his specialty, including on cataract surgery, corneal and ocular surface wound healing, and dry eye disease. He focuses on these areas at the Kresge Eye Institute. As a clinician-scientist, he additionally serves
in affiliation with Wayne State University Physician Group and is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Anatomy and Cell Biology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. His research includes the development of thymosin beta 4 as a novel therapy for corneal wound healing, inflammation, and dry eye disease. Dr. Sosne has contributed his knowledge and expertise in many articles and publications about his research.
Dr. Sosne’s distinguished career began after he received his Medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY, and completed a fellowship through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Chevy Chase, MD. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, and a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is affiliated with the Association of Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
A frontrunner in his field, Dr. Sosne is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology which allows him to stay current in his field.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Sosne has been the recipient of many awards and accolades. She received the 2011 AFER/ Pfizer Ophthalmics Carl Camras Translational Research Award, ARVO, and was voted to Top Doctors Metro Detroit in 2012, Top Ophthalmologist in 2012 by the International Association of Ophthalmologist, Best Doctors of America in 2013, and Best Doctors of America in 2014.
Dr. Sosne dedicates this recognition to his wife, Aliza Sosne whom he thanks for her continuing love and support; in the loving memory of his father, Zelman Sosne; his mother, Eleanor Sosne whom he also thanks for his love and support. He also dedicates this to his in- laws, Gabriel and Renee Vadnai whom he thanks for their love and kindness; and his mentor, Hynda Kleinman, Ph.D. whom he thanks for their guidance and mentorship.
