Daniel F. Danzi, MD

Daniel F. Danzl, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Professor in the field of Emergency Medicine and acknowledgment of his prominent role as Professor and Emeritus Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Louisville.

Located in Louisville, Kentucky, the doctors of the University of Louisville Physicians-Emergency Medicine, formerly known as University Emergency Medicine Associates, are board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, providing emergency medical care at the University of Louisville Hospital. The hospital’s emergency department houses the region’s only Level 1 adult trauma center, where they provide initial triage and treatment for trauma patients. Additionally, for emergent but less critical conditions, there is FirstCare, an open access service staffed by nurse practitioners specializing in caring for patients requiring urgent assessments and treatments.

Distinguished educator Dr. Danzl has been a professor of emergency medicine at the UofL since 1989, as well as chair emeritus of the Department of Emergency Medicine as of 2020. Garnering over 40 years of vast knowledge and professional experience in medical education, Dr. Danzl specializes in all areas of emergency medicine and has an interest in advanced trauma life support. In addition to his teaching role, Dr. Danzl is affiliated with the University of Louisville Hospital, also caring for patients.

Throughout his acclaimed career, Dr. Danzl flourished in several positions before his current position at the University of Louisville. He began his professional career as an emergency medicine intern at the Peoria School of Medicine, now known as the University of Illinois, College of Medicine at Peoria, in 1976, completing this role in one year before becoming the chief resident at University of Louisville’s School of Medicine from 1978 to 1979. He then joined the University full time as an assistant professor from 1979 to 1983, associate professor from 1983 to 1989, and professor and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine from 1991 to 2020. During this time, Dr. Danzl has also been an associate professor of the Department of Surgery since 1991, among other roles.

An academic scholar, Dr. Danzl pursued a formal education at the University of Cincinnati, earning a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude with honors, in 1972. Shortly after, he then attended Ohio State University, where he attained a Medical degree in 1976. Following this, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine from 1981 to 1991. Dr. Danzl remains active in professional organizations including the Wilderness Medical Society, and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine as its founding member. In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Danzl is the recipient of several honors and accolades throughout his career. He is well-known for his research on hypothermia as a member of the various editorial boards and publications.
