To prepare for his career, Dr. Shope completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville campus where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree. Following this, he went to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee Memphis campus in 1967.
