Safe Haven Counseling Center is a non-profit, affordable mental health counseling service with three main objectives: hope, healing, and restoration. It is a place that people can feel safe, share stories, and gain love and understanding. They believe that people should not have to choose between the quality of counseling services and affordability, partnering with local counselors to establish a sliding scale fee system based on income. In addition to her role as director, she serves as a licensed professional and nationally certified counselor.
Kindhearted and devoted, Ms. Waggoner provides individual and family counseling with compassion for all faiths. Her areas of expertise include domestic abuse, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, nonprofit organizations, and lesson planning. She has seven years of experience in mental health and nine years in counseling. In addition to counseling services, she offers expert testimonies.
Ms. Waggoner chose her field after experiencing her own difficult times and enjoying her former job at a women’s shelter; she found the experience inspirational and powerful. The key to her success has been meeting people where they are in their lives and making them feel safe without being judgmental. When asked what advice she would give to new mental health professionals, she states, “It’s incredible and joyful to see someone struggling finding hope. We guide and facilitate the individual through the process.”
In addition to Ms. Waggoner’s experience counseling, she has taught several courses as an assistant, including group counseling and ethics and legal issues in counseling. She has pursued numerous professional development options, partaking in numerous conferences. In the future, she hopes to serve as an adjunct professor and transform Safe Haven Counseling Center to have telehealth and more clinicians.
In recognition of academic achievements, Ms. Waggoner earned a Master’s degree in Pprofessional Christian Counseling from Liberty University, transitioning to candidacy for a Doctorate degree in Counseling Education and Supervision in 2021, focusing on counseling education and supervision.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Waggoner maintains affiliations numerous organizations, such as the American Counseling Association and the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault.
Recognizing those who have helped her succeed, Ms. Waggoner dedicates this dedication to her mentor Steve Christopherson. Without his encouragement, guidance, and patience, she would not established her own private practice. He encouraged her to step out into private practice.
