William M. Novick, MD

William M. Novick, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine as the Founder and CEO of William Novick Global Cardiac Alliance and a Paul Nemir Jr., MD, Endowed Professorship in Surgery and International Health at the University of Tennessee.

In 1993, Dr. Novick created a foundation that provides pediatric heart surgery for children with heart disease in the developing world. Having seen disparities in health care between children living in developed and developing countries, he envisioned a world where every child with heart disease could have access to quality health care and live a healthy life. Over the last twenty years, he and his team have operated or provided medical care in 46 cities in 32 countries, treating 7,411 children. Throughout his years of service, he recruited a group of clinical experts who share his passion. In 2014, the group joined together to form the William Novick Global Cardiac Alliance. Their mission is to provide sustainable health care solutions to children with heart disease in developing countries.

Leading a remarkable career for more than 30 years, Dr. Novick is an expert in pediatric heart disease and pediatric congenital cardiac surgery. His areas of interest include the global burden of pediatric cardiac disease and developing a registry and database for pediatric cardiac surgery in developing countries. He began teaching at the University of Tennessee in 1993. In 1999, the University of Tennessee honored him as Paul Nemir Professor of Surgery and International Child Health. Before serving as an educator and establishing his foundation, he served for two years as the sole pediatric cardiac surgeon at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children.

To prepare for his career, Dr. Novick graduated from Troy State University for undergraduate studies, University of AlabamaBirmingham for a master’s degree, and University of Alabama for a medical degree. He went on to complete a general surgical residency at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a cardiothoracic residency at the University of Alabama, remaining at the University of Alabama for a post-graduate fellowship.

Maintaining affiliations with prominent organizations, Dr. Novick is a member of the STS, EACTS, STSA, and WSPCHS. He serves on the Executive Committee of the IQIC.

Dr. Novick expresses gratitude to his mentors Dr. John W. Kirkland, Dr. Albert D. Pacifico, and Dr. Paul Nemir, Jr.
