Dr. Nasser K. Altorki is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Medicine as a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Director of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Supported by over three decades of professional excellence, Dr. Altorki has leveraged himself as an accomplished cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeon. His areas of expertise include gastroesophageal reflux surgery, esophageal surgery, thoracic lung cases, laparoscopic fundoplication, heartburn, esophageal cancer, achalasia, mesothelioma, hyperhidrosis, etc.
In addition to his role overseeing the clinical lung cancer program at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical College, he serves as the director of Lehman Brothers Lung Cancer Research Center and a professor of thoracic surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Previously, he served as a research professor in cardiothoracic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Renowned for his role in medical advancements, he used COX-2 inhibitors for the treatment of lung and esophageal cancer and developed a lung cancer vaccine.
A native of Egypt, Dr. Altorki always dreamed of becoming a doctor so he could help others. He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery (MB/BCh) from the University of Cairo in 1977. With the support of his father Khaled Altorki, he relocated to the U.S. for post-education training. He completed an internship at Washington Hospital Center and a residency and fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospital & Clinics.
Dr. Altorki has shared his breadth of expertise in myriads of publications. Most recently, he published “Adjuvant Therapy for Node-Positive Esophageal Cancer After Induction and Surgery: A Multisite Study” in Annals of Thoracic Surgery and “Do the surgical results in the National Lung Screening Trial reflect modern thoracic surgical practice?” in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Altorki dedicates this recognition in loving memory of his father Khaled Altorki.
