Rev. James N. Watzke, PhD

Rev. James N. Watzke, Ph.D., is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Mental Health for his work as a Clinical Psychologist at his private practice.

Located at Oakbrook Terrace, Dr. Watzke offers mental health, family, and general counseling to the Elmhurst, Lombard, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Villa Park, and Oak Forest areas. He recognizes that strain and stress is expected over time, applying innovative approaches to a wide range of counseling specialties, including, but not limited to, anxiety, adolescent, addiction, behavioral disorders, career assessments, child custody issues, and co-parenting issues.

To the surprise of some people, Dr. Watzke is a Reverend and Clinical Psychologist. He does not try to convert people, but does work with the positives in his clients’ belief and value system. On account of his specializations, he is an expert at viewing problems analytically and comparatively, and counseling during life cycles, transitions, and boundary problems. He has been in practice since 1972, previously working as a Professor of Social Psychology at Saint George College and Catholic University in Chile.

An academic scholar, Dr. Watzke received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in 1959 and a Bachelor and Licensure of Theology from Gregorian University in Rome in 1963. He became an Ordained Catholic Priest in Rome in 1963. He continued higher education, earning a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Notre Dame and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Harvard University. At Harvard, he completed dissertation research with the National Opinion Research at the University of Chicago.

In light of affiliations, Dr. Watzke is a member of the American Psychological Association. He serves as Chaplain at Holland American Cruise Lines. An active member of his community, he counsels veterans at the Westside Virginia Hospital and is an On-Call Preacher at local Catholic churches.

Dr. Watke dedicates this recognition to Theodore Millon, Franco Malley, Eric Erickson, Gerald Kaplan, Rev. James Gill, Rev. Alan Myer, and George Vaillant.
