J.L. Valencia, MD, PhD

J.L. Valencia, M.D., Ph.D., is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine as Pathologist and Director at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.

Established in 1982, Rio Grande Regional Hospital has been servicing the Rio Grande Valley for over 30 years. They offer a full range of inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services, coordinating their efforts across departments to ensure that every patient is afforded a seamless and efficient treatment plan. This hospital has a team of more than 500 elite medical professionals who have specialties across 35 diverse medical fields. Dr. Valencia has 45 years of experience in his field and has served the last 30 years at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.

Dr. Valencia entered medical school as a student of internal medicine but after a year of schooling, switched to Pathology after recognizing a need in the medical field for skilled pathologists. He completed a Doctorate of Medicine at the University Guadalajara in 1970 and then went on to complete a residency in anatomic pathology and a subsequent residency in clinical pathology at the Texas Heart Institute. Additionally, he completed advanced training with Baylor University and CHI St. Luke’s Health.

Dr. Valencia is double Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. To stay up to date in his field, he remains a professional member of the Texas Medical Association and the Hidalgo Starr County Medical. In addition to his certifications and memberships, Dr. Valencia is a Medical Director at 6 hospitals.

In the future, Dr. Valencia hopes to have more interactions with others in his field that will contribute to his expertise so that he may offer his patients the best possible care.
