David A. Fernandez, FAAOS, FACS, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine as an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon at Ortho Michigan.
Ortho Michigan employs orthopedic specialists who have expertise in conditions related to the hand, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, back, and foot. Ortho Michigan has clinical offices throughout Michigan, in the cities of Flint, Lapeer, and Fenton, and therapy offices in Grand Blanc and Clio. Dr. Fernandez has worked at the center since 1999.
An expert orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Fernandez has over twenty-five years in the industry. He specializes in kyphoplasty, spinal tumor associations, spinal cord stimulator, and general health and wellness. In addition to his role at Ortho Michigan, he works as an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the College of Human Medicine and has involvement at Lifestyle Endeavors, a plant-based nutrition and lifestyle program that provides individualized plans to help empower individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices in pursuit of greater wellbeing and disease prevention. Before these positions, he served as a Commander, Active Duty Sailor, and Surgeon in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Due to his service, he has been bestowed numerous awards and recognitions.
In recognition of academic achievements, Dr. Fernandez received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, transitioning to Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where he earned a Doctorate of Medicine. For post-education, he trained at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York for a surgical internship and orthopedic residency. Increasing his expertise further, he completed a spine fellowship at Spinal Associates of North Central Florida.
To further enhance his career, Dr. Fernandez remains active in the following organizations: North American Spine Society, FACS, AOS, and FAOS.
In his spare time, Dr. Fernandez enjoys being outside, playing the cello, rooting for the state football team, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Fernandez would like to dedicate this recognition to his wife Liesbeth and his sons David and Darren. He also would like to recognize his mentors, Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Hoppenfield.
