Jocelyn Anne Chouinard is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional Member in the field of Massage, Manual and Movement Therapy.
As a graduate from the prestigious West Coast College of Massage Therapy in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1994, her training not only included Massage Therapy, but also a wide range of Osteopathic techniques, Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Myofascial Release Therapy, Massage and European Hydrotherapy Treatments.
Jocelyn’s previous profession was devoted to a wide range of dance, including Jazz, Contemporary, Egyptian “Belly” Dance, Flamenco, Polynesian, African, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian dance forms, North African Folklore, Turkish Roman and East Indian Dance. She traveled the world for many years, teaching, performing and studying many forms of dance in Canada, US, the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Europe, North Africa, South Africa, Turkey, Syria, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. She also lived for many years in Europe before finally returning to Canada to begin her studies as a Massage Therapist.
Jocelyn’s professional career as Registered Therapist began directly after successfully completing her extensive training and examinations from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, as well as her post-graduate examinations by the regulatory body known as the College of Massage Therapy of British Columbia, WCCMTBC.
In order to maximally benefit from a wide range of clinical experience, Jocelyn decided to work as a locum in a very wide range of practices within the Greater Vancouver area, as well as Vancouver Island and the central and eastern areas of British Columbia. The different demographics of these regions allowed her to explore her wide range of techniques and training to best serve the unique needs of a wide range of clients. This ever changing and flexible schedule also allowed her to accept contracts as an internationally recognized dance artist, instructor, choreographer and performer. During one of her contracts in Calgary, she had a conversation with one of the students, who was a student of Massage Therapy. She mentioned that the “Rocky Mountain College of Massage Therapy” was looking for another instructor, gave her their contact info and suggested that she call them. After a quick conversation clarifying her experience and credentials, they scheduled a meeting and hired her for a full time position, after verifying her credentials.
Jocelyn was devoted to her students and passionately dedicated to sharing her knowledge of precise diagnostic skills, relevant treatment plans and teaching highly effective massage and manual therapy techniques. In her second year at RMA, in one of her advanced classes, she introduced an osteopathic technique known as Muscle Energy Technique. After the second class, a group of students asked if she would consider teaching them an entire weekend of this technique if they arranged the location and brought their tables. She agreed enthusiastically and after the first weekend, discovered that this was indeed her true calling as an instructor.
Jocelyn is now a highly recognized Instructor of Massage, Manual and Movement Therapy Training, with a wide range of approved Post Graduate, Continuing Education Workshops designed specifically for Registered Massage Therapists. This shift into her intensive weekend Course Structure enabled her to once again resume her private therapy practice, as well as her previous career as a dancer/instructor of Flamenco and Oriental ‘Belly’ dance. during her remaining years in Calgary, Alberta. Jocelyn was also invited to instruct a variety of Massage and Manual Therapy Courses for the Massage Therapy Conferences sponsored by the Massage Therapy Associations of Alberta. After seven very inspiring and successful years in Calgary, Jocelyn moved to Montreal for four years. During this time, she did continue to practice as a therapist, but felt the need to once again focus on her dance. She balanced teaching Dance Workshops and Instructor Training Courses with her immersion in continued training with many of Montreal’s most gifted Flamenco artists in the community. This also permitted her to travel once again to teach dance in many parts of the world.
Jocelyn’s extensive dance background, combined with her thorough knowledge of body mechanics and in-depth physiology, anatomy, neurology etc. from her training as a Therapist, inspired the creation of her Movement Therapy Systems, which she developed to augment her patients’ treatments through their homecare practice. These include her Effortless, Easy and very Effective step-by-step programs “SOS for the Office”, “30 Second Body Reboot” and “Relax, Release and Renew”. Jocelyn is currently planning to make her Movement Therapy training available to the public via one on one coaching; online programs; and presenting them into the Corporate Sector, in order to prevent and even reverse physical stress, decrease absenteeism due to physical conditions and decrease in the ever increasing cost of medical expenses.
