Luciene (Lucy) Sant’Anna Takagi

Luciene (Lucy) Sant’Anna Takagi, Psy.D is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional Member in the field of Psychology in recognition of her role as a Clinical Psychologist at Lucy Takagi Psy.D LLC. Located in the heart of New Jersey, Lucy Sant’Anna Takagi Psy.D LLC, provides psychotherapy for a wide range of conditions including trauma-based disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and relationship difficulties. In addition, Dr. Takagi also conducts Psychological Evaluations for citizens applying for, their own or their relatives’, documented immigration status in the USA. Amassing over eleven years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Takagi specializes in trauma treatment and issues related to immigration and relationship difficulties. Though she currently only treats adults, she is a trained forensic evaluator and has worked in Regional Diagnostic Treatment Centers and Child Advocacy Centers in New Jersey, conducting evaluations and treatments of children and families impacted by allegations of abuse and/ or neglect. An immigrant herself, Dr. Takagi has dedicated her clinical psychology career to “helping the undeserved and uninsured.” The changes in immigration are having a big impact. When asked her advice to newcomers within the field, Dr. Takagi notes the importance of developing, a “niche, but to also train broadly and diversely and to be socially mindful.” Throughout the course of her education and training, Dr. Takagi attained her Masters in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, in 1999. Later, she graduated from Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. She completed Post-Doctoral training at Barnert Hospital in Paterson, and at the Audrey Hepburn Children’s House at Hackensack University Medical Center. To further her professional development, Dr. Takagi is a member of several organizations including the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA), the American Psychological Association (APA), the Essex County Association of Psychologists (EUCAP), the Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey (LPANJ), and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC). In 2017, she became President of EUCAP, was elected Member at Large for the NJPA Executive Board, and has CoChaired NJPA Task Forces to support the needs of Early Career Psychologists and Permit Holders. Working closely with New Jersey’s Portuguese-speaking community in Newark, Dr. Takagi, provides sliding scale treatment for both, documented and undocumented immigrants. She also offers probono psychotherapy for A Home Within, a national organization committed to providing psychotherapeutic treatment to children and adolescents with a history in the child welfare system. Dr. Takagi notes the importance of considering both, the community and the professional practice. Attributing her success to her clinical supervisors, professors and clients, Dr. Takagi states that those who observed her, understood that her “work matters.” Her commitment to higher education and to her profession motivated her to become a psychologist after having children, and without the presence of her own family and of her in-laws, who both lived overseas. Dr. Takagi dedicates this recognition to her wonderful husband, Ryuichi Takagi, “without whose support, nothing would have been possible,” and to her two children, Brian and Julie Takagi, “who keep me humble.” She also dedicates this recognition, to all of her mentors, and to her patients, who “taught me everything I know.”
