Donna Ames

Donna Ames is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Pharmaceuticals as a result of her role as Senior Manager,Clinical Project Lead with Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a global biopharmaceutical company that combines groundbreaking science with a steadfast commitment to meeting the needs of patients living with severe, life-threatening and often rare diseases. Alexion  scientists are among the first in the world to unlock the therapeutic potential of inhibiting terminal complement, a group f proteins that play an important role in the body's immune response and can destroy healthy tissue in certain patients.  In her current position with Alexion, Donna specializes in clinical research in ultra-rare kidney diseases epidemiology, data and project management. She is affiliated with the Society of Clinical Research Associates and is a Certified Clinical Research Professional as of November 2011. Her experience encompasses research including cancers of the breast, esophagus, lung, colon, pancreas, and prostate. Reflecting on her career, one of Donna’s greatest accomplishments was entering the field of Pharmaceuticals as a complete novice. She joined the industry accidently by taking a position as a temporary administrative assistant, and now she has come full circle, turning herself into a successful project leader. Donna takes one step at a time, and  continues to grow and learn. She faced obstacles changing positions in a company where it was never done before. Donna was raising her daughter and two stepchildren all while traveling for business and trying to learn everything she needed to learn.  A self-admitted workaholic, Donna says she is never satisfied until she understands every word. Donna stresses the  importance of asking questions, and in order to get the proper understanding of things, she would read each and every document that came across her desk. Donna would even review reports and publications in her spare time at home after work; she would go the extra mile to look up terms and concepts that she didn’t fully understand until it became clear to her. Donna is afraid that if she were to label herself an “expert” on something, she might miss the next big advancement. Donna would like people to remember her as a caring, considerate, compassionate, and positive individual who lived a life worth having lived. She never wasted an opportunity to experience everything life has offered to her thus far. She lives by the motto “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” Furthermore, Donna is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University in consortium with Southern Connecticut State University and started post-graduate study at The University of Connecticut Health Center.
