Dr. Karlheinz Schwarz, Ph.D.

Dr. Karlheinz Schwarz, Ph.D. is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Education as a
result of his roles as a Former Professor and Head of the Computational Quantum Theory Group with TU Vienna (Vienna University of Technology). The novel materials and, in particular, the understanding of their properties on an atomic level require the close collaboration of different disciplines. As a consequence, scientists with expertise in various fields such as synthetic inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry of crystals or small particles and surfaces, and theoretical chemistry work closely together in the Institute of Materials Chemistry (IMC). With almost forty years of experience, Dr. Schwarz specializes in Quantum Chemistry; Solid State Physics; Density Functional Theory; Materials Science; Hard Materials; Metals; High Temperature Superconductors; Catalysts; and Minerals. Additionally, Dr. Schwarz previously served as the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry of the TU Vienna (1993-1999); as well as the Vice Chairman of the Senate of the TU Vienna (2002-2003). Dr. Schwarz’s accomplishments within the scientific community have been widely recognized. He was awarded the 1972 Sandoz Prize; 1975 Cardinal Innitzer Promotion Prize of Sciences; 1994 Science and Technology Agency (STA) Fellowship Award; 1995 Rudolf Wegscheiderpreis of the Austrian Academy of Sciences; 2001 Corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences; 2006 Foreign Member of The Royal Society of Sciences at Uppsala; 2007 Award from The City of Vienna; and the 2012 Viennese Award for Engineers.  Throughout his educational career, Dr. Schwarz earned a Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry from the University of Vienna.
