Jim Kartes, “The Voice of Island Information,” is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Premiere Member among Professionals in the Broadcasting Industry. Jim is the President and Owner of Paradise Television Network. With over 48 years of experience in the television industry, it is no wonder Jim has earned the title of “The Voice of Island Information.” Jim started Paradise Television Network (PTN) on the island of Maui in the early 1980’s and it remains the state's largest channel devoted to tourism and the most widely used information source for quality visitor information on Maui. As the production and broadcast company behind The Visitor Channel 7, PTN has set the highest standards for its informational programming and strives to provide its audience with ways to spend their time and money »while vacationing on Maui. Jim started his career as a newsreel cameraman in 1959 working for WCCO in Minneapolis and then in 1961, he moved to Indianapolis going to work for WISH TV. In 1966 he went to work for CBS where he provided news coverage and also filmed many documentaries. As a result of his work at CBS, he won 6 television Emmys.  In addition, Jim traveled the world with Walter Cronkite as Walter’s cameraman. Walter and Jim covered many Major news stories such as President Nixon visiting China, the first Astronauts who practiced traveling to the moon, as well as the Vietnam prisoner release. Additionally,  Jim also filmed many of the original 60-minute feature stories. In 1974 Jim decided to start his own production company in Indianapolis. He became a highly paid commercial director and his company won numerous awards for their corporate communications work. Through time he built  a large production business and when the Beta-max recorder was invented he started the first Home Video publishing company in America. Time magazine referred to Jim as the Henry Ford of the home video business.  Over time, Jim  built a large and profitable business and sold it to Scripps Howard. In 1988, Jim moved to Maui to retire but found he wasn’t conditioned for retirement so in 1998 he started the Paradise Television Network (PTN) on Maui. He started the Visitor Channel 7 by acquiring a television Channel on the cable systems by utilizing the Commercial Leased Access Laws controlled by the FCC.  Channel 7 is in almost every hotel room and private homes on Maui.  Jim is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of Writing and Producing Television Commercials and Programming, Creating Television Networks and Companies, as well as Developing Computer

Software. In addition, he consistently and  efficiently Manages Companies with upwards  of 300 Employees. As a result of his dedication to the field of Broad- casting, Jim has been named Maui Businessman of the Year 2007. In addition to his role with Paradise Television Network, Jim is also the Owner of Maui X-Stream, a Software Development Company Specializing in Video Streaming Software.
