David M. Thoms

David M. Thoms is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the field of Estate Planning & Taxation in recognition of his role as Counsel at Warner Norcross + Judd LLP.

With over thirty six years of experience in the field, Thomas is commended for his remarkable contributions to the legal industry. In his current capacity, Thoms has attained extensive experience in the areas of estate and tax planning of businesses, large corporations, and nonprofit organizations. In his role as Counsel at Warner Norcross & Judd, LLP, Attorneys at Law, Thomas has also specialized in wealth transfer and family business succession planning, where he has “provided trusted legal counsel to individuals, families and businesses throughout the region.”

A renowned speaker, Thoms was asked to appear as a guest speaker at several engagements including the Henry Ford Health System – Department of Philosophy; the Michigan Association of Certified Financial Planners; the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Michigan; the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants; Kalamazoo College; and the Michigan Bankers Association – to name a few. Thoms has also served as an adjunct professor at Madonna University, and has taught at New York University through the Summer Tax Institute, 52nd Institute.

Early in his career, Thoms attained his Bachelor’s degree from Kalamazoo College in 1970. Thereafter, Thomas went on to obtain his Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Wayne State University in 1975, his Juris Doctor from University of Detroit Mercy in 1979 and his LL.M. degree in Taxation from Wayne State University Law School in 1988. He is also fluent in French as well as English.

In an effort to further enhance his professional development, Thoms is an entrusted member of the program committee of financial estate planning in Detroit and sits on the Board of Directors. Thoms is an elite member of several organizations including the American Planning Association, the American Society of the French Academic Palms, the Michigan Association of Planners, the Metropolitan Detroit Bar Association, the State Bar Association, the Oakland Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Planned Giving Roundtable of Detroit and the Kalamazoo County Bar Association.

Charitable to various organizations, Thoms is an avid member of his community and served as a member of the advanced board and chairman of the Metropolitan Detroit Salvation Army, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Visiting Nurse Association, the Greenhills School, the University of Michigan and the Detroit Institute of the Arts.

In recognition of his professional accolades, Thoms is revered for his outstanding contributions to his community as a decorated officer through the Ordre des Palmes Academiques, and earned a Commander Order of Salvador Award from the Salvador Dali Museum in Florida.
