Sleep disorders are known to seriously impair a child’s health, cognitive functioning, learning, behaviors, or jeopardize the safety of themselves or others. In children, Over 20% will suffer from one or more major sleep disorders sometime in their childhood or adolescence.
Sleep deprivation or oxygen deprivation during sleep could also be the cause of oppositional behaviors, poor concentration, and low academic achievement.
Dr. Marsha Luginbuehl has over 28 years of experience as a former school psychologist and sleep disorders screening specialist. With a doctoral emphasis in Pediatric Sleep Disorders, Pediatric Psychology, and Family Therapy, Dr. Luginbuehl has helped thousands of children both within the United States and internationally identify their sleep disorders. With her company, Child Uplift, Inc., and the Sleep Disorders Inventory for Students (SDIS), the Sleep Disorders Inventory for Students – Revised (SDIS-R), and the Sleep Inventory for Adults (SDI-A) that were developed by Luginbuehl and leading sleep specialists and sleep clinics, adults and parents of children have a convenient place to go to the screen and determine if they have a high risk of having a major sleep disorder (see screening website: www.SleepInventory.com). This screening enables them to know when to seek treatment from a sleep specialist to correct their sleep disorders and decrease possible cognitive, learning, behavioral, and/or emotional problems often caused by untreated sleep disorders. This can result in greatly improved health, safety, and promote success and quality of life.
