Carlos E. Marroquin, MD, FACS

Carlos E. Marroquin, MD, FACS, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Surgery as the Chief of The Division of Transplant and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Immunology, Transplant Surgeon, and Green and Gold Professor at the University of Vermont.

Larner College of Medicine fosters brilliant teachers and accomplished medical students. Students have a 93.9% success in residency, venerated for being more prepared and having greater interpersonal skills than their peers. The Division of Transplant Surgery, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery (HPB) and Immunology is dedicated to providing excellent education to residents and clinical and pre-clinical medical students, providing didactic structured lectures, clinical and bedside teaching. The Division remains active in HPB, transplant and immunosuppression research to ensure patients receive the most current treatment and students receive the most up-to-date training.

With more than two decades of experience, Dr. Marroquin has attained broad experience in transplant and HPB surgery. His research interests include advancing quality measures in HPB and transplant outcomes including living donor surgery and outcomes. He is especially interested in liver and pancreas cancer, general surgery, and transplant surgery, and performs a variety of surgeries, including complex hepatobiliary surgeries, transplant procedures and live donor nephrectomies.

Prior to his professional career, Dr. Marroquin attended the UCLA Medical Center for a medical degree, Georgetown University Hospital for a surgical internship and residency, National Cancer Institute for a surgical oncology and immunotherapy fellowship, and Duke University Medical Center for a transplant fellowship.

A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Dr. Marroquin maintains affiliations with numerous organizations and societies, including The United Network for Organ Sharing, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, The American Society of Transplant Surgeons, Society of University Surgeons, The New England Surgical Society, and Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.

Leveraging his expertise in print, Dr. Marroquin has published numerous articles and book chapters, including in Surgical Clinics: Patient Selection for Kidney Transplant. He has been the recepient of numerous awards, including the Seymour Schwartz Award for Excellence in Surgical Education.

When he is not working, Dr. Marroquin enjoys spending time with his wife Bridget and their three daughters.
