Nicklett R. Johnston, DNP, FNP (BC) is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine as a Doctor of Nurse Practitioner (Family Nurse Practitioner) at the non-profit Benson Hospital.
Specializing in Family Practice, diabetes, hypertension, procedures and personal attention, Dr. Johnston has 40 years of experience in the nursing field and has served two years in her current capacity. Throughout her education and training, Dr. Johnston received her associate degree in Nursing (ADN) degree from Cochise College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of Phoenix. She also completed a certificate degree as a perfusionist at The Tucson Heart Institute in Tucson. AZ. She obtained Master of Science (MS) degree for the Family Nurse Practitioner certification at Graceland University, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Walden University. To further her professional development, Dr. Johnston is a member of American Nurses Association, International Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tao. Charitable in nature, Dr. Johnston is a volunteer Master for 1st United Methodist Church (Rockwall, TX). She has also volunteered as a childbirth educator, and for the American Heart Association has been an instructor for CPR and ACLS. She promotes vaccines in the community and has aided with free flu vaccination drive. She is also an advocate to promote health in the community by being involved in community health fairs and local health events.
In acknowledgement of her professional achievements, Dr. Johnston was honored with an Award for exceptional case reporting article Case Report Award, American Journal of Extra- Corporeal Technology, Hardon, Virginia, 1/1999 - 1/2000. An award is given yearly to a case report that is proposed to be innovative and outstanding in the field of perfusion. This case report refers to an alternate form of coagulation for those patients that have adverse reactions to heparin. She has been noted in Who’s Who in Health and Medicine, 1/2004 - 1/2005, Who’s Who in American Women, 1/2006 20- 1/ 2007. Dr. Johnston has received The David B. Lensch Award, Helping Hands, Rockwall, TX, 1/2016 - 1/2017. In recognition for enhancing lives through dedicated service, compassion and commitment, she has also been awarded “Top family nurse” nominated from the international nurse. With this distinction her biography will be accepted into the 2018 and 2019 edition of World Wide Leaders of Healthcare. Her publications include: “Argatroban in Adult Membrane Oxygenation.” The Journal of Extra-Corporeal Technology. AMSECT, January 2002, 281-4. The use of Agatroban in adult membrane oxygenation was used due to the patient having heparin induced thrombocytopenia. The discussion also included necessary technique to determine clotting times and prevention of clots in order to maintain the life of the patient.
“The Emergency Use of Recombin Hirudin in cardiopulmonary bypass.” The Journal of Extra-Corporeal Technology. AMSECT, January 1999, 211-215. Use of Hirudin an anticoagulate from the salivary gland of the leech is used to help those with heparin induced thrombocytopenia (Hit) to prevent clotting with heparin. The article gives a synopsis of the case and the circuitry. “Simplified Solution to Eliminating Electrical Noise During Cardiac Surgery.” The Journal of Extra-Corporeal Technology. AMSECT, January 1996, 205-208. Discusses grounding techniques during bypass surgery to avoid electrical noise that will override the EKG needed to observe the patient’s heart. Dr. Johnston dedicates this recognition to her grandmother, Anita Sabala who inspired her to be a nurse. Dr. Johnston also dedicates this to her mentor, David Lensch, MD a family doctor in Rockwall, TX.
