Carmela Brienza, PNP, is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in recognition of her contributions to the Pediatric Nursing field. Brienza’s professional title is Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital. She has worked in this position since 2011 and brings 24 years of field experience, as well as expertise in pediatric urgent care, to her role. “The UNM Medical Group, Inc., is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, organized in 2007,” the medical group’s website states. “It is the faculty practice of the UNM School of Medicine, comprising more than 1,000 clinical practitioners representing more than 152 specialties who operate 11 UNMMG outpatient clinics and practice at UNM Health System hospitals and clinics.” The hospital’s mission is to “provide an innovative, flexible and efficient faculty practice organization supporting excellence in the clinical, education and research missions of the UNM School of Medicine to improve the health of all New Mexicans.” Prior to assuming her role as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Brienza worked in the role of Registered Nurse, also at the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital. “I worked as an inpatient Registered Nurse until 1997, then transitioned to the outpatient pediatric clinic,” Brienza said. “In 1999, I worked as a Pediatric Pulmonary Nurse, and then worked as a Nephrology/Peritoneal Dialysis nurse until 2008.” Brienza earned her PNP certification as well as her Master of Nursing Science degree from the University of New Mexico. To further her professional development, she is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners. When not working, Brienza volunteers her time to outreach projects for New Futures High School, as well as Asthma Outreach for Critically Ill Children. She also enjoys reading, hiking, attending theatrical performances and traveling. In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the field, Brienza is the recipient of the Provider of Excellence Award.
