Iliyan Ivanov

Iliyan Ivanov, M.D., is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the field of Psychiatric Medicine. Dr. Ivanov serves as an Adolescent Psychiatrist as well as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at St. Luke’s Mount Sinai Hospital. He has served his current position since 2015, and brings over 17 years of field experience, to his role. As part of his job duties, Dr. Ivanov utilizes his expertise in child and adolescent psychiatry, the assessment and treatment of ADHD as well as childhood trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, and adolescent and young adult substance use disorders. In addition to his responsibilities as Medical Director of Acute Care, Dr. Ivanov is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications featured in the American Journal of Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry and the Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology. He also contributes to the Kaplan and Sadock’s Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry, and the Dulcan Textbook of Child Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Ivanov obtained his Medical degree from the Higher Medical Institute Varna (1984 - 1990); as well as completing a postgraduate residency at Sinai University, and a residency in General Psychiatry at Maimonides Medical Center (1997-2000). He also holds an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification, as well as a Buprenorphine Treatment of Opioid Dependence certification by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and is Board Certified in General Psychiatric care, and Adolescent Psychiatry. To further his professional development, Dr. Ivanov is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry – where he served as the past President of his local chapter and is an active Board Member – and of the Society of Biological Psychiatry, where he is a member of the program court. As a testament to his outstanding accomplishments in the field, Dr. Ivanov is the recipient of several honors and awards, including: the 2016 Outstanding Mentor Award by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; the 2015 Distinguished Fellow Award of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; and the 2014 New York Council Outstanding Leadership Award, to name a few. When not working, Dr. Ivanov enjoys playing in his band, The Shrinks, and spending time with his family, including his children, as well as art, music, movies and literature. Previously, he participated in an art collective, which helped him to exhibit his visual artwork.
